Today is Olivia’s birthday and she woke up to snow, delivered to her as a present from the clouds. It’s probably the only day of this Minneapolis week when we will have snow and as I write, it has already gone as the temperature rises, but it’s Minnesota in December, you never know when it might hit again. We looked out of the window before leaving for the studio to see a fox, red against the white of the snow, running beyond the road. We drove out of the driveway to a beautiful landscape of lovely houses between the trees.
We were at the studio earlier today, starting at 10 AM, we have a tight schedule and need to have ten lead vocals finished in seven days. We started slow but now after Day 3, we have five completed. You never really know how long it’s going to take – it takes as long as it takes. Sometimes the more straightforward songs take longer. Today we started with a song that we thought might take some time and we managed to finish it and another by 5 PM. On the first day, we started with a song that we thought might be straightforward – it took nine hours.
We finished at 6 PM today, we were going out to a restaurant for Olivia’s birthday. We drove through some inner-city Minneapolis neighbourhoods and I remembered that I had been to this town so many times over the years. We were meeting Space Summit Jed and Lisa at the restaurant and saw them walking in as we were parking. We got out of the car and although the snow was gone, it felt cold, the kind of cold you don’t ever feel in Porto. When we sat down in the restaurant, I kept my coat on for a while before we ate, a lovely dinner with friends.
I have a cough, I’m congested and I came home to Fred and Gerri Ann’s and drank her Vitamin C, her Nyquil, and the Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer tea with honey that she kindly found for me at the store as my small supply ran out. An earlier night tonight and a good night’s sleep is what I need.
Music today has been Blueburst’s release of the Fly Away single, a John Denver song that was originally released as a duet between Denver and Olivia Newton-John. Craig has teamed up with singer Riley Schatz for this version.
