It didn’t rain and consequently, I almost went out in the day but ended up trying to catch up with a long list instead, but I wondered if I would have another chance of a rain-free day in another week of wet skies. I haven’t seen any projections for dry skies, but living in Southern Europe, it wouldn’t be unusual for bearable winter weather, sunny even. The only major winter storm I’ve seen today is the resignation of the prime minister, more political upheaval in the world, and at home, it’s all you need. You still have to get on with your life and high on that life list is rehearsing for the gigs in Spain and Portugal, closely followed by overseeing mixes on different projects, album artwork decisions, and a sesh with Fred in Minneapolis, we’re planning.
I was thinking about The Archive this morning as I woke up and wondering how it should work. Perhaps a visit by appointment, donations instead of entrance, and a Friends of In Deep contributor card, laminated, sitting proudly in your wallet or purse next to your credit cards, gym membership, library membership, and your honorary membership of the local philately society. One good thing is that we don’t need a café because we have one right outside our door with a deck and tables, the café is across the narrow road that serves traditional Portuguese food and coffee. On the square, a ten-second walk away, we have another large café with more options and a great people-watching location. We are also three minutes away from one of the main streets, so it’s a pretty handy location.
We need to start thinking about funds for Phase 3, the actual mega-move and I will be going through the premises with another video overview of where we are up to with renovations and preparation for actually getting the collection here soon. The main room is a store room at the moment, but everything in there will be cleared out for the main vinyl collection. We still have some needed floor preparations, but the walls are now painted and there’s water and electricity.
I have a great creative sessions room with the guitars and equipment already here with more to come. This is where I can do online sessions, record, and it can even be used as a creative writing space because it has such a good vibe. There will be an admin office and library, there’s a lot of books in storage and not just music books. I have my grandfather’s and my father’s books as well as a vast collection of classic literature and science fiction as well as newer authors – add weird books about how to do weird things that you wouldn’t think of unless you had a weird book to tell you how to do it and you get the picture.
Music today has been the latest album from Slowdive, Everything Is Alive (2023). Shoegaze à gogo, great if you like this kind of thing, luckily I can sail in many ships.
