Today was a non-torture trip to the dentist, although that depends on whether getting a quote for implants qualifies as pain. The answer is, yes of course it does at €1000 each and needing three, I will be waiting for a while and wondering when that song will hit the top of the charts along with Charli XCX, Daft Punk without the drums, and Usher. I suppose I could be waiting for a while.
On the way back from the land of the many swallowed metal objects, so called because once a dentist in America dropped his metal implement in my mouth. I dropped by the shops to pick up a variety of useful goods, for example, Ready Brek! Who remembers Ready Brek? There’s a shop here that sells a lot of English sweets and veggie frozen foods like Quorn sausages and Kit Kats (an interesting combination). So I picked up the last packet of Ready Brek, which is smooth porridge for kids, the adults have the Quaker oats and the connoisseurs are horrified by Ready Brek, haha, as they pick their oats fresh from the trees.
I had to drop into Tubitek to pick up the Anjimile album The King (2023), a new release on 4AD, quite a beautiful record. They also had two House of Love vinyl albums for me, Babe Rainbow (1992) and Audience with the Mind (1993) and whilst there, I noticed they had Cousin (2023), the new Wilco album. I went from there to buy a laptop to TV cable and managed to buy the cable and get all the way back to The Archive and realised I’d left the bag of records in the shop.
I had to swing by the stereo shop to pick up my stereo amp which was being cleaned and checked as I had found some kind of weird missing mid-range on one side. It seems to be alright now and on the way there I swung by the electrical store and picked up my records. In the store, packed with old radios, cassette players, amps and turntables, receivers, and mini stereos, they asked me if I would like to buy another NAD amp in part exchange for mine, I said no, it was huge and had so many buttons and outputs it could have kept a whole ward of crashed space aliens alive if they’d plugged their antennae into it.
Music today has been the wonderful Roy Harper and his album Flat Baroque and Berserk which amongst many great songs features Another Day covered by This Mortal Coil and sung by Elizabeth Fraser. Listen to this and ten other great Roy albums.
Music Of The Daze
She offers me Tibetan tea on a flower tray
She’s at the door, she wants to score
She dearly needs to say
Where the wind’s own forget-me-nots blow
But I just couldn’t let myself go
Not knowing what on earth there was to know.
But I wish that I had ’cause I’m feeling so sad
that I never had one of your children
And across the room inside a tomb
A chance is waxed and wanes
The night is young, why are we so hung up
In each other’s chains
I must make her, I must take her while the dove domains
And feel the juice run as she flies
Run my winds under her sighs as the flames of eternity rise
To lick us with the firstborn lash of dawn.
Oh, really my dear, I can’t see what we fear
Sat here with ourselves in between us.
And at the door, she can’t say more than just another day
And without a sound, I turn around and I walk away.
