TO WHERE I AM NOW

Guess where I went today? You got it, the dentist again, and yes, my appointment was at 2.30 (tooth hurty). My filling from last week fell out as it was only temporary anyway, but it couldn’t handle even a few days of the reality of eating. They found me a day to come in on Tuesday and then cancelled it and made it for today. They were just going to look at it (I suppose) and replace it till my appointment at the end of the month but instead of just checking out what happened and potentially creating the same problem, they made this into a proper appointment and did the necessary second (of three) appointment’s work on my root filling (they must have had a cancellation). When I got there, I was in the chair for nearly an hour. Also, because I had the temporary filling I was trying to eat on one side of my mouth – where I have another broken tooth and two teeth missing so that broken tooth broke some more. I also have a broken tooth on the bottom row. In that hour, he also temporarily fixed the other two broken teeth. So, fingers crossed everything stays in place till 6 PM, Wednesday, August 30th. But overall, a result because the filling falling out meant that I’m actually farther along than I would have been if it had stayed in. It’s still torture.

In the waiting room, a woman walked in who we’d seen on the train. She had a wicker basket as her bag and we had commented on it. So, suddenly she was sitting with us, so I told her we’d seen her on the train and mentioned her basket. She said it’s Jane Birkin’s style. Now I’m not an expert on women’s accessories, sure, but she had no idea that Jane Birkin was a singer, acted, made records with Serge, and had three daughters, with Serge (Charlotte), John Barry (the late Kate) and Jacques Doillon (Lou). I guess people have different interests, so now’s your chance to be made aware of the Birkin bag (if you weren’t already). I’m not sure the lady in question will be running out to buy Ex fan des Sixties (1978) and I’ll be unlikely to buy a Birkin bag.

Through it all, it was a beautiful day and not at all apocalypstick even though there’s nothing like a dental appointment to throw your day off kilter. A later trip into town had me buying a colour printer cartridge, an adaptor for my new USB hub, the one I don’t need because the one that doesn’t work, works. Two supermarkets, coffee shop, and back for a soft dinner (it was soup for lunch while the fillings settled in). The veggie restaurant is perfect for soft hippie food, and Olivia and Rohan went to get a takeaway for us all. A nice sit down at the table near the window where the ladies of the night stand opposite.

Music today has been the sound of the Hermès Birkin bag, just the zipper is beautifully produced.

This is my stolen 1965 Rickenbacker 12-string, serial number EB157. If there's any chance of this guitar coming back to me before I go to meet my maker, then that would be wonderful. Please contact me if you have any information.

ORDER HERE

"These are awesome sessions that I highly recommend for guitar players of all levels. Very informative, frank discussions on everything related to guitar and music in general. Definitely a must for anyone pursuing songwriting."
(Stephen G., VA, USA)

"Marty knows how to bypass scales and get to the heart of feel and timing. His musical knowledge spans multiple cultures and genres. Perhaps most importantly, Marty is a cool dude. I highly recommend his guitar guidance." (Jed B., MN, USA)

"Ok, so you’re sitting in your home and Marty is across the world but is actually right here teaching you how to play guitar and write songs. He is a delight to talk to and he is your teacher, meaning he wants to see you get something out of his lessons. You know he’s paying attention and wants to steer you in the right direction. I am so grateful and humbled that he offers his time in this manner. This is an amazing opportunity for anyone who admires anything from his enormous body of work. How often do you get to learn from somebody that inspired you in the first place? Amazing." (Ann S., CA, USA)
