I woke up today later than I expected but had to keep my eye on the clock as I had a sesh with Arktik Lake Tony in Sydney, thankfully we are still in European summertime which is working well with Australian wintertime because it means the sesh is at midday for Tony’s 9 PM. We had a lot to go over, more details as they happen, and as I’m back in Porto, I’ll be able to concentrate on the projects that are reaching the later stages. Strangely, as I began writing about this, Midnight Oil’s Beds Are Burning came through the speakers – we recorded last June/July in Midnight Oil’s studio in Sydney.
After the sesh, I watched England finally beat Australia in the third test and then contemplated all the notes on my desk, telling me what I had to do in the week – dentist, listen to Arktik Lake mixes, Valley of Salt mixes, Blueburst tracks, Space Summit drum backing tracks, Rajan roughs as well as start up with more regular seshes that I haven’t been able to do easily whilst being in the studio in Texas 24/7. I have to get into my own creative musical writing as well because that’s what I do, haha, it’s good to be busy with all the projects, but I would like to also take this time to work on my own ideas, that’s between the In Deep Music Archive, renovations, the move, and the mystery project – more on that as it reveals itself.
It would be nice to get to America to tour, and I would like to think that it would be possible next year in between the studio time. The tour in England in March was a satisfying experience, despite the last gig’s bout with food poisoning. It would also be nice to play some gigs in Australia with Arktik Lake as well as solo. Whether Niko and I will ever do MOAT shows is open, but we have tentatively discussed making another record when our schedules align. I’m just talking about projects where I sing, I play on, Space Summit, Blueburst and Fred Argir’s albums, so there are also possibilities that these projects could find themselves out on the road or at least on a stage somewhere.
I hope to be doing more recording with Salim at the end of the year, and I’m officially now a member of his band, will keep you posted on that. Please say a kind word to him, as he has sadly had to cancel his East Coast dates with Rhett Miller due to a ruptured eardrum.
Thinking of you, Salim, get better soon. We were out tonight with Salim friends Shelly and Jason, and we missed his presence at that Portuguese table.
Music today has been Salim Nourallah’s Somewhere South Of Sane (2018).
