I wasn’t in the studio today till later on, we had to get to the post office to send the In Deep T-shirts that were ordered last week (if you want one, contact Olivia at olivia@martywillson-piper.com, we’ve got S, L, and XXXL left here in Dallas) plus I needed stamps to send a postcard or two. We had to be there before midday because the post office closes, so we were leaving the accom at the usual time. It was a nice short break from every day in the studio, but I ended up getting my optical migraine issue in the post office, which leads to a weary brain and a dull headache. There’s something about relaxing for a moment that lets these things through, maybe the post office isn’t the place to relax. Anyway, I got over it eventually and after one more anonymous and one secret stop (haha) we went to Sarah’s house to eat late lunch and listen to Barrett on her cool stereo, as you do.
At the studio, we were putting the finishing touches on Rajan’s three songs. I had some ideas about adding guitars, removing guitars, checking vocals and arrangements, and generally working on the tracks. We had expected to finish earlier in the week but with the massive storm, we lost a bunch of time in the studio and decided that today would be the day to make it up. The next stop for these songs is the mix and we hope that you will be able to hear them not too far into the future, we’ll keep you posted on that.
We’re also in the process of organising the rehearsals for the Salim week. We have three shows in Texas this month, Thursday 23rd at The Lonesome Rose in San Antonio, the 24th at The Parish in Austin, and the 25th at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Dallas. I will be guesting on guitar, which means I’ll be playing the noisy bits in the shadows, haha. The great Joe Reyes is the main guitar player with Salim on acoustic rhythm, John and Jason alternately on drums and bass, and Rich on keys.
Music today has been Barrett, Syd’s second solo album from 1970. If you like Effervescing Elephants, Gigolo Aunts, Dominoes, and Baby Lemonades, this is the record for you. This interesting snippet from Wikipedia: “A ‘baby’ is archaic public-house slang for a half-size bottle of mixer. “Baby lemonade” would be understood by Victorian barmaids to mean a small bottle of lemonade”.
