I am happy to announce that we will have the second Noctorum album, Offer The Light (2006) available on vinyl for the first time through Schoolkids Records as part of Record Store Day 2023 (April 22nd). It will a limited edition of 750 albums and will be on glorious orange vinyl. We are slowly going through the back catalogue of CD-only releases until we get a vinyl version of all the relevant titles. Looking through the RSD releases, there’s not too much I’ll be after but probably, Groundhogs – Crosscut Saw, Ian McCulloch – Slideling, to start with. Maybe a copy of Offer The Light while I’m at it.
I was walking up Santa Catarina and noticed a shop, I hadn’t noticed it before so I suppose it’s new, it was very bright and in the window was a sneaker in a glass case. I realised that it was a Nike shop, on the wall were lots of lit-up single sneakers. In the seventies, this would have been another record store with a window and wall full of albums but now it’s a shoe store, and I wondered why there are so many one-legged people in the world.
A man walked into a shop two doors downs from the new place. It’s some kind of, well, I don’t actually know what, but he was wearing a jacket with “Make Money Not Friends” emblazoned on the back. I wondered if it was provocative. Then I wondered if it was a joke. Then I wondered if he was serious and speaking for himself and his…friends.
A walk into town at a furious pace to get back for the Barcelona/Man U game (didn’t make it) and a sesh with NJ Brian and Indiana Brian later on. The lamp I got the other day has a ”touch dimmer” in it, which seems to have burnt out. So four electrical shops later, no luck, but one did actually find the item on a website that I later ordered the item from. I have no idea how it does what it does, you touch it, and it has three different settings, and as a none scientist I can’t for the life of me figure out how it works, but I really like it. There’s another dimmer on another lamp in the house, a red one, excitingly the new one is blue, it’s a small joy but then I’m a lamp lover, I need to turn the big lights out in a room.
A walk to a lot of antique shops today where absolutely nothing was affordable. There was a small white plastic sign with ‘chocolates’ written on it, 35€, in your dreams, brother! There’s nothing in this kind of antique or retro shop that is affordable and it doesn’t matter if they are super organised with glass cases and little price tags or corridors through chaos, they’re just too expensive. That sign for the West London Chess Club from the 19th century was cool but I didn’t dare ask how much it was.
Music today has been Inhaler – Cuts and Bruises (2023), released tomorrow, Feb 17th and as I’m writing this past midnight, I can listen to it, and I am. So I don’t really know what I think about it yet, you tell me.
