Tomorrow, Saturday, August 28th we are having a Space Summit – Listening Party, the album stream piped into your front room for you to listen to on your expensive stereo setup through your massive speaker system, shaking the walls and fruit off the trees in the garden. It all starts at 8 PM UK/Portuguese time and we will stream the whole album and have a Q&A afterwards. I’m not sure who will be joining us from the project. I know our drummer Ed is doing a gig that night, so he’ll be on stage with a jazz band in Okehampton in Devon and backing singer Phoebe lives in Borneo, so it’s not all straightforward with time zones and availability. But, singer, lyricist and co-writer of the album Jed will be there, all the way from the home of Bob Dylan, Minnesota. We will be joined by listeners from all over the world and some might even be listening in different languages. Some will be wearing the national dress of their country. Live streams are also opportunities for bored ghosts to listen as the music travels through the ether and that’s where they listen. Hope to see you there. Go here for times in your part of the world.

Other hot news is that Olivia got her second jab today and she is officially a Moderna girl on jab 2. I was J&J (one jab) but it means that from the 15th of September we can now officially travel to England to sort out the archive. But, Portugal is still on the amber list so we still have to jump through some hoops by getting a Covid test before we leave and another one two days after we arrive despite being fully vaccinated. Ah well, I don’t actually mind as long as they are not charging a ridiculous amount of money to get the tests for both of us.
I finished my weekly swim today with another 72. It’s like a cricket score and it’s similar in that it’s backwards and forwards 72 times. So that’s 216 this week and back on track. I’m building it back up again as the weeks go by but the new season starts on September 1st and that means new rules and might mean lane sharing…aggghh. Covid separated people and as you have to book in advance the numbers in the pool have been way less. So when people feel safer there will be more people, although as I swim in the middle of the day I won’t be competing with the crazy breakfast crowd, the lunchers or the after workers.
Whilst I was there, one of the lifeguards, Francisco, reminded me that Porto and Liverpool are in the same Champions League group. Francisco usually works at the other pool but we exchanged details because when Liverpool come to Porto to play we may try and go to see the game together. The stadium is walking distance from where we live. But if we are in the Porto part of the ground and Liverpool score, I may have to get excited inside only.
Over dinner, we’ve been watching these fascinating documentaries about British castles. Today we watched two episodes, Lancaster castle and Leeds castle (in Kent). Others we have seen are Edinburgh, Cardiff and York. What a gruesome history we have. It’s on Netflix, great if you like that kind of thing.
Music today comes from New Jersey New Yorker Evan Wright and his debut album Sound From Out The Window (2021). They describe him in the overview as country-tinged indie psychedelia but I can’t hear the country in it at all. I really like this record, soft breathy vocals, and the part they got right, indie psychedelia. Some lovely melodies and odd sounds. Not available to purchase on vinyl till December but available to listen on Spotify. No Wikipedia page. Highly recommended.
